Espaces funéraires et mobiliers en Champagne-Ardenne durant l'Antiquité tardive
2010
International audience; This article attempts to demonstrate the criteria used in the organization of funerary spaces at the end of Antiquity. Amongthose elements that structure the funerary space, the enclosure trench, understood as a delimiting characteristic or a place for the deposit of objects, seems to have been of decreasing importance. The age of the deceased affects the choice of siting of the grave and treatment of the body, while deposits of grave goods seem little linked to the age of the deceased. An exception to this observation is objects of apotropaic value, which are more frequently found in the graves of the young. On the other hand, gender seems to play a role of little i…

Exemples de conservation de bois : trois types d’aménagements funéraires du VIIe au XVIIIe siècle à Thaon (Calvados)
2009
The excavations started inside and in the immediate neighbourhood of the roman church Saint-Pierre of Thaon since 1998 have enabled to underline several phases of occupation between the IInd century AD and the XIIth with, from the VIIth century, the establishment of a church modified repeatedly. Among 437 burials (from VIIth to XVIIIth century), devices combining wood and stones (cofferings) or showing important remains of wood perfectly preserved (whole boards of coffin nailed down and pegged) were studied and are presented in this article.
Animaux domestiques et faunes sauvages en territoire Arverne (Vème avant JC - 1er siècle après JC)
2010
This thesis is based upon the study of 160 000 animal bones issued from 23 late iron-age sites excavated in the Auvergne region of central France. The assemblages represent different types of archaeological contexts (farms, aristocratic settlements, agglomerations, oppida, religious/ritual zones and funeral areas) which enable us to study their role in the domestic, craft and sacrificial spheres. The aim of this thesis is to show the implications of animal use within the Gallic society. This thorough study also replaces the data into the chronological context of Gaul between the LaTèneien and Augustian periods, and the geographical territory of the Clermont-Ferrand Basin in the Limagne plain…
The standing of the Southern Côte-d’Or in the evolution of the early Iron Age funeral practices in Burgundy and Franche-Comté
2014
This work is a synthesis of tumuli graves in Burgundy and Franche-Comté from Hallstatt C to La Tene B periods. The objective is to characterize the funeral assemblages in Southern Côte-d’Or as well as the influences and the tendencies that went through this area during the early Iron Age. A set of comparisons shows the particularities of the Southern Côte-d’Or at several levels: the recruitment of the populations, the position and orientation of the deceased, the architecture of the graves and their internal arrangements, the typology and positions of the personals items, the nature and locations of the deposits. These various leads allow reconstituting costumes and mortuary practices, as w…
